An Editorial in the LA Times asks (as its headline!): Was 9/11 really that bad?
The more I think about it, the more shocked I am that this was written and published in a major American newspaper. Having suffered the worst attack on American soil in our history, a writer tells us, “eh- whats the big freaking deal…others, like, eh, the Russians, have had it worse.”
Then he repeats the claim inside the editorial, and adds insult to injury:
“But it is no disrespect to the victims of 9/11, or to the men and women of our armed forces, to say that, by the standards of past wars, the war against terrorism has so far inflicted a very small human cost on the United States.”
Oh… I get it. If you say “no disrespect” then you can say anything you want after it. I think it was Dave Chappelle who joked about this (can’t remember for sure). Well no offense to you, writer (David Bell), but you have to be one of the biggest idiots ever to set a pen to paper. And certainly one of the most cruel to write about an ongoing conflict, which claims daily lives, in such a way.
I think the victims' families will take plenty of offense from this man, as will the families, friends and fellow soldiers of those fallen in battle, regardless of how the sentence is phrased.
Our take- cancel your LA Times subscriptions- that would be a worthy answer to an evil article.
